Suffolk Photographer’s Exhibition examines the Issue of Bereavement
Jan Armitage, a mature final year student at University Campus Suffolk, is preparing to mount a thought-provoking exhibition in Ipswich of photographs and supporting texts on the theme of bereavement. Entitled “The Living and the Dead”, the exhibition examines the ongoing nature of bereavement. Jan says “Whether you are old or young, male or female, a sense of loss extends beyond the early days of living without someone you love and pervades everything that you do every day. My images attempt to capture that ‘everydayness’ and encourage the viewer to consider the effects of living with loss”.
Adrian Williams, the chairman of Suffolk Cruse Bereavement Care, who are presenting the exhibition, said “All of us experience bereavement on our life’s journey and, as the major bereavement care charity in the country, we are delighted to support Jan in this project. It is an exhibition that will hopefully help many individuals and make all those who visit understand more about an often misunderstood and under-explored aspect of people’s lives. Cruse volunteers will also be on hand during most of the exhibition to offer literature and advice on bereavement issues.”
“The Living and the Dead” exhibition (with free admission) is being held
at the Waterfront Building, University Campus Suffolk, from Wednesday, November 30th to Wednesday, December 7th (from 9am to 6pm and Saturday 10am to 3pm).
Radio Suffolk visited the exhibition on Wednesday, 30th November, and you can hear the broadcast here:The Living and the Dead Exhibition.mp3

The 2011 Cruse Conference on the subject of "Grief in the Community" took place last year on 12th and 13th July at Warwick University. Suffolk Cruse was fortunate enough to have been given a grant by the Big Lottery Fund to pay for ten volunteers from Suffolk to attend. We are very grateful to the Big Lottery for their generosity. The volunteers found the experience very rewarding and informative.
